I've been reading the archives from Captalia on the earthquake in Japan. When a CAPSLOCK COMMUNITY is better behaved than DA....
They had no hate, no arguments. It was all people bonding, sharing news, hope, and virtual hugs. The joy and relief as more and more of their friends and artists were confirmed safe is so strong, even today.
There's no "OH PEOPLE ONLY CARE CAUSE THEY'RE WEEBOOS", no "LOL AHAH I ONLY CARE ABOUT MY COMIX" (which I have seen NONE of, however much people say it's happening). There was none of that. Only actual deep concern for the well-being of the man who brought them together, as well as commenters' friends, family, and all the people of Japan.
Here on DA, there seems to be a whole lot of troll-ish hate among the concern. I am actually considering starting a LiveJournal and moving my stuff over.
I was never really interested in the LJ community until now. But now it looks far more inviting than this site. I had assumed the "capslock com" was an infamous 4chan sort of thing, with trolls and porn and weirdness. But it is not. The board was full of friendly, worried people who put a country's pain over their opinions and their fandom.
CAPTALIA bonded during the disaster. DA divided. I think we know who's better.
